Copperas
Cove (TX) EDC Hires Polo Enriquez |
|
|
Johnson & Associates
would like to extend our warmest congratulations
to Mr. Apolonio “Polo” Enriquez,
his wife Peggy, and their family as they become
the newest members of the Copperas Cove community.
The Copperas Cove Economic Development Board
of Directors conducted extensive interviews on
March 9th & 10th, including an awesome tour
of the Mayborn Planetarium (thanks Mr. Chavez,
it was truly wonderful!)
Mr.
Enriquez was selected as the new Executive Director
for the Copperas Cove Economic Corporation and
began his duties on April 26th.
He
most recently served as the Director of Economic
Development for the City of Centralia, WA, as
well as serving the Hutto Economic Development
Corporation as Executive Director until 2006.
Mr. Enriquez brings a wealth of Economic Development
experience from California, Texas and Washington.
Mr.
Enriquez had this to say about his new position, “I
am excited about serving the Copperas Cove Economic
Development Corporation as its Executive Director. I
want to thank the EDC’s Board of Directors
for the trust they have placed in me and will
work every day to meet and exceed their expectations.
Central
Texas is home to my wife Peggy and me and we
look forward to becoming a part of the Copperas
Cove community.
The
Board of Directors has already put down a firm
foundation for the economic development work
ahead. The expansion of Constitution
Drive on the east side of town, the land swap
agreement with Fort Hood, and a solid business
retention plan are all projects that will directly
lead to job creation and enhancing the economic
vitality of the community.
Thank
you Johnson and Associates for all the hard
work that went into making this competitive
process enjoyable, informative and positive.”

Why
Hire a Search Firm?
Using
a Search Firm vs. Doing it Yourself
A
search firm, already in the community economic development
network, has access to thousands of professionals around
the country to draw from for employment. Many professionals
will not job hunt, but if they receive a call from a
search firm about employment opportunities, they take
a serious look at the job and the possibilities.
A
search firm may take 120 - 180 hours to complete a search. Most
volunteers, city staff, or organization staff do not
have the time to devote to a complete search.
When
you use a search firm, you are sending a message that
you are serious about the job and unqualified individuals
rarely apply. Search
firms remain current on EEOC requirements and monitor
the selection committee to ensure no rules are broken. We
conduct a thorough background check on the candidates
selected to interview.
The
pressure is removed from you should relatives and friends
want to apply for the job.
Our
clients have used our services because they know we deliver
top-quality candidates, we stand behind our services,
and we make the selection committee members’ jobs
much easier.
We
participate in the interview. By doing so, we
continually uncover additional information about the
position, we protect you from asking illegal or discriminatory
questions, we ensure the interview is a two-way process
with both the organization and candidate asking questions,
and we make sure the interview begins on time and stays
on track.
We
provide you with our own recommendations, but you always
make the final hiring decision.
Let
the proven experienced team at J&A find your ideal
candidate!

What
Are Search Committees Seeking in Candidates?
At
J&A, we are often asked what Search Committees are
looking for in candidates these days and in this economy. We
have seen a pattern with 4 elements and wanted to share
with you. Whether you are considering hiring us
or you are a job candidate, you may find these helpful.
Search
Committees are looking for:
1. Someone "Bright” with "Passion" for
the position (meaning the applicant has done his/her
research and can bring ideas/contacts/creativity to their
community.) Too many people are seeking a new opportunity
these days for applicants to be anything other than top-of-their
game!
2. A
motivator with excellent communication skills to enable
bridge-building and be able to build strong relationships. Many
of our clients have realized that the art of relationship
building can be the greatest skill that a new leader
can bring to the table. Many folks have credentials
and experience, but not everyone knows how to nurture
relationships now to bear fruit tomorrow. Employers
continually seek that type of person.
3. A
successful track record. You still have to have
proven yourself in past opportunities. Highlight
successes in all areas of your life and career; it’s
more than just what you do today. If you haven’t
been successful somewhere, develop that now, because
you have plenty of competition out there who have been.
4. Education/Training/Work
Experience to hit the ground running. Experience
is not everything. Some search committees seek
seasoned experienced leadership and are willing to pay
more to hire them. Others are willing to give newer
folks to the profession a chance to prove themselves. Regardless
of whether you are a newly trained or more experienced,
be able to make a contribution to the organization on
Day One. Search committees are looking for candidates
with ambition and confidence to hit the ground running.
Two
recent quotes from clients on what they expect:
“What
I'm saying is that they have to know how to ‘sell’ themselves
before they are even considered to be the right one
for the organization.”
“Biggest
DON'T,” as one Director stated is “After
you have sold the car, STOP selling the tires!”
