A
Helping Hand
|
|
The
recent earthquake and tsunami in Japan has
been a sad thing to watch and read about. It has made us, many others, and likely
you pause to truly appreciate life today and ponder the stark
reality that we never really know for sure what tomorrow holds. Of
course, now is an excellent time to donate
to the Red Cross to help support the immediate
need for food, water, shelter, and supplies
for the survivors.
But
this also got us thinking about helping those around us in other
ways. We always seem to be snapped to attention when a devastating
disaster occurs, but what about those less catastrophic events? What
about when someone just needs a helping hand? When someone
needs a hand finishing a project, producing a community event,
developing a windshield tour for a prospect, or preparing a presentation? Are
there ways we could be more supportive in our office, our organization,
our community? When was the last time you asked yourself
or your team that?
Sometimes
it’s not about depending on someone to ask you for help
if they need it; sometimes it’s about looking around and
extending a hand (or an olive branch) just because it’s
the right thing to do. I am challenging myself and my associates
to look around regularly to see who and where we can help, and
I hope you’ll consider doing the same!
May God
Bless You Abundantly,
Chloe

Staying
Relevant in Your Social Media |
Have
you ever read social media posts that are boring,
too personal, or have nothing to do with the
business or organization? Don’t
be that person!
When
creating your social media posts, draft a little paragraph in
your word processor and go through it a couple of times, not
only checking for grammatical errors but asking yourself if your
followers will likely respond to it. You need your posts to be
engaging. You need your followers to read through the entire
post. In this day and age of technology, our attention spans
have been shrinking and shrinking that we hardly read whole sentences
before going on to the next post. How effective is your time
and energy if your community just skims past you? Not very effective
at all.
Remember
that when you post on your company’s or community’s
page or site that you are sending a message
from the entire company or the entire community,
not yourself. The words you use must represent the mission, the
culture, and the heart of the organization, or else people will
feel disconnected from the expectation they had of your team.
Social
media is a marketing tool. Marketing is used to promote your
business or organization. So your posts, pictures, and links
must pertain to it and be useful to the audience. Some funny
video that recently went viral on YouTube might be hilarious
to you and your friends but it could offend someone else and
is simply not relevant to your business and shouldn’t be
posted on the company social media sites. Although, another video
you came across that highlights a trend in the market you are
involved with would be a perfect video to post and would engage
your audience. Share it!
If
you ever need help or ideas on what to post and how to keep it
exciting and relevant, make sure to ask someone for input. Two
heads are better than one! Social media is free and very effective.
Why not use it to its full potential? Thanks
to Emily Washburn for
her ongoing contributions to J&A’s Newsletter series
on Social Media! Visit her at www.emilywashburn.net
J&A
is taking Emily’s advice and working hard to become even
more relevant to your business. We are developing a new
website now and hope to roll it out this spring! Look for
a new and improved website where you can find the information
you need even quicker!
